PANERAI at the North Pole thanks to Mike Horn

  • PANERAI at the North Pole thanks to Mike Horn

Mission accomplished. Yesterday, 23rd March, Mike Horn and Borge Ousland concluded the North Pole Winter Expedition after 60 days and 5 hours.

Leaving on 22nd January with the goal of reaching the North Pole during the dark months of the arctic winter, Mike and Borge covered the 1,000-kilometre journey without the aid of dogs or mechanised vehicles but with a range of hi-tech equipment designed to protect them from the extreme cold and help them find their way in the polar darkness.

Panerai is proud to have contributed, in part, to the successful completion of this venture by creating, as is now the tradition, a Luminor GMT North Pole watch specially designed to endure extreme ranges of temperature:

    61 days walking
1,000 kilometres covered from Arktichevsky Cape (Siberia)
to 90° latitude at the North Pole
the first two people to cross the ice continent during the winter solstice
