This is the story of my friends Submariner! The serie number tells me that this watch is from 67/68 and was given on his 18:th birthday, it was not new but unworn! Since then it have been used everyday!
My friend works at sea as a Skipper on smaller coast ships.
In 1995 he lost the watch during some engine work, at this time he buoght a new one!(14060) About one year later the watch was found lying in old spill oil & diesel under the engine!!
It was very well preserved ; ) The watch had a "sailor" service
at once, soap & autosol. Back on the wrist the very same day
working fine.
The watch has been served twice under all this
years, last one was made at Rolex in Coopenhagen, as the scans will show, it´s been a while!
Here we go...
Bracelet 93150. Note the remainder after a weld job and how the
end pice 580 have collapsed. easy to solve with a tong! Not the first time.
Im one of the guys that think Rolex make nice and strong bracelets, this one looks fine considering the heavy use.
Not to much stretch here.
The benefits of a thick glass is that you can loose fragment or two, it doesn´t matter.
It´s no problem to see the time, this is just not the right angle.
Theres not much sharpness left on the bezel "spikes" but with strong sailor fingers it still works.
Thank´s Peter for letting me take the photos.
Well, that was about it...
My longest post ever.
Best regards
Jacob Hagert
//When I returned the watch I asked if he had used the new one (14060)under these couple of days?
"Yes I did, but I took it off after a couple of hours, the bracelet is stiff and uncomfortable"
in a few seconds was the old favorite back on his wrist!//
